Tips for Spring Cleaning your Makeup Bag

Tips for Spring Cleaning your Makeup Bag

Spring is here, and the change of season is the perfect time for a fresh start. It's an ideal opportunity to switch up your skincare products for lighter textures and give your makeup bag a thorough clean.

Disinfect Your Makeup Bag

Lids can come loose, and spillages happen, so spring is a great time to turn your bag inside out and wash it with soap and water. If it's machine washable, pop it in on a quick cycle to ensure it's fresh and clean.

Out with the Old, In with the New

Makeup has a shelf life, so if you've had a product for more than a year, it's probably time to toss it. Liquid products tend to expire faster than powders, so check expiry dates and discard anything out of date. This is especially important for products containing SPF, as expired SPF won't protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

Wash Your Makeup Brushes

We use makeup brushes daily, but when was the last time you washed them? Dirty brushes can cause congestion, breakouts, and irritation. Brushes used for foundation and concealer should be washed weekly, while those for eyes and powders should be cleaned twice a month. Store brushes in a cool, dry place, away from damp bathrooms.

To clean, use warm water and gentle antibacterial soap. Wet your brushes, apply soap to your palm, and swirl the brush, rinsing as you go. Lay them flat to dry with bristles hanging off the edge of a counter.

Don't forget your makeup sponges! Clean them weekly and replace every three to four months.

Phase in Natural Formulas

Consider switching to natural skincare and makeup products. They're better for the environment and your skin, offering anti-ageing, anti-inflammatory, and moisturising benefits. Plus, natural formulations are cruelty-free, ensuring no animal testing.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is crucial year-round but especially important after winter. Remove dead skin and unblock pores with a gentle exfoliator, like our Body Scrub, or try daily dry brushing.

Use Lighter Formulations

As the weather warms, swap your moisturiser for a lighter, water-based or hyaluronic-acid-based formula. The same goes for makeup—opt for a tinted moisturiser instead of a heavy foundation.

Increase Your SPF

While SPF 30 is fine for winter, increase to at least SPF 50 for spring and summer. Wear a standalone sunscreen, not just the SPF in your moisturiser.

Tweaking your routine ensures your skin is ready for the new season!
