Why epilation may cause ingrown hairs 😧

I receive many requests from customers seeking advice on how to prevent ingrown hairs. Whilst Folli Oil products have been developed to soothe, heal and help prevent ingrown hairs, skin care products can only do so much and there may be other reasons why you may continue to experience ingrown hairs.

I've noticed that many of the customers getting in touch with me for guidance use an epilator to remove body hair.

Whilst epilation is an effective method of hair removal, unlike waxing, it does not exfoliate your skin. The upside is that you don't feel the raw tenderness that comes from waxing, but the downside is that when the weaker hair grows back, it may have difficulty breaking through the skin's surface and become ingrown.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

So if you're going to epilate, exfoliation is key!  Make sure you exfoliate (use a loofah, exfoliating cloth, dry skin brush or body scrub) before you epilate to remove dead skin cells and it's good practice to exfoliate every time you wash.

Pain relief tip 🚑

Try and soak in warm water for at least 10 minutes before removing hair.  This helps to open the hair follicles so the hair is loosened and comes out more easily. 😊
