Do you know what's in your skin care products?

Do you know what's in your skin care products?

I've always loved skin care products and they've been an essential part of my life due to suffering from acne in my teens and twenties and later developing an extremely sensitive, reactive skin in my thirties. However, it wasn't until I had children and re-trained in Beauty that I became curious about what was in the skin care products I used on a twice-daily basis. This coincided with a conscious shift to use more natural and organic products in my home because of their influence on my family's health and the environment. It was inevitable that this switch to natural would encompass the products I used on my skin.

We now know that many of the common ingredients used in skin care products might have damaging, long-term effects on our health. Petroleum derived ingredients such as mineral oil have no benefit to our skin & have a tendency to block the skin (bad news if you suffer from ingrown hairs!)  Foaming agents such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) can upset the skin's natural barrier, dry the skin out and have been associated with outbreaks of eczema; synthetic preservatives (parabens) have been linked to hormone imbalances ... there are many other "nasty" ingredients I recommend avoiding and they'll be a further post on this later.

In recent years, we have been given a greater choice to use products that originate from nature, not synthetics. For centuries, our ancestors used natural, plant-based ingredients to heal and preserve the body's health and well-being, without long-term side effects. As our skin is our largest organ and the products we use are absorbed into the many layers of our skin, I feel it's important to question what you put on your body as much as what you put in your body.

We manufacture our products by hand, in small batches in our Studio in the heart of the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Our products are made to order to ensure optimum freshness. We operate with sustainability and the environment in mind, supporting fair trade practices and organic production. Folli Oil products are cruelty-free, environmentally friendly and vegan & gluten-free.

I'm guessing that if you're reading this, you're curious about natural skin care and exploring the choices available to you. I hope I've inspired you to make a natural choice. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch and of course, I'd love to hear your feedback on how you get on with Folli Oil products.
