It's that time of year when your skin can look lacklustre, tired and flat. If you're feeling like you've lost your sparkle thanks to dull skin, try these fixes to rejuvenate your skin and get back a healthy, vibrant glow.
If you're not drinking enough water, it will show in your skin. Dehydration reduces the volume of blood flow to the skin causing you to look pale and unwell. Long term dehydration can cause lasting damage such as fine lines, uneven tone and sagging skin. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water or caffeine-free drinks.
2. Exfoliate regularly
A build up of dry, dead skin cells can make your skin feel coarse and look dull. Regular exfoliation gets rid of these dead cells revealing fresher, glowing skin beneath. It also helps to stimulate new cells to grow, including the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid which makes your skin feel smoother, firmer and more even in tone.

3. Dry brush your skin
Dry brushing is a fantastic way of exfoliating but it's also a form of massage. Gentle brushing helps to move lymph (toxins) towards the drainage points around the body which is amazing for reducing puffiness, congestion and improving your overall wellbeing. Have you noticed that your skin looks super-glowy after exercise? This is because when your heart rate goes up, your blood flow increases taking oxygen and nutrients around your body resulting in brighter, more energised skin.
Stress can cause all sorts of problems with your skin. When you're stressed, your body releases adrenaline and cortisol which can trigger your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum (oil), this can clog your pores and result in dull, congested skin.
6. Get more sleep
Our skin does some of its most important work while we sleep as it shifts from protect mode to repair mode but when we're sleep deprived, our skin can feel drier and more dehydrated which may accelerate the appearance of ageing.
7. Moisturise your skin
Most skins are combination which means you can be dehydrated AND dry or oily. Cold winter air and central heating can wreak havoc with our skin and disrupt our skin barrier function, leading to dull and rough skin.
